Terms of Use

About these terms

These Terms of Use apply to the Letterfy website, iOS app and related services provided by Letterfy Inc. (“Letterfy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using these services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

Letterfy is currently in pre-release development. A coming-soon announcement or product preview does not promise a particular release date, feature, price or level of availability. Test builds may change and may contain errors or incomplete features. Newsletter detection, including Letterfy’s bundled classifier, is automated and can miss newsletters or include unwanted emails. You can review and correct these results; detection does not authenticate a publisher or confirm a subscription.

Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled. Letterfy is not intended for children under 13. If you are not old enough to enter into these terms on your own, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

Using Letterfy

Starting with build 57, fresh onboarding presents publication matching, catalog sharing, reader counts, automatic newsletter images, hourly automatic mail checks and all three alert categories initially on. Review the explanations and turn off any choice before saving and continuing. Opening or dismissing the choices does not apply them. Previously saved choices are preserved when setup resumes, and updates do not change completed users’ preferences. All choices remain editable. iOS notification permission is separate and can be declined without preventing use of the app. Catalog sharing follows Add & verify and confirmed-subscription actions; choosing it during setup does not enroll all newsletters for contribution. In builds with preference-aware newsletter actions, enabling catalog sharing makes Add & verify the main add action, and More offers Add privately. Updated builds display the contribution disclosure before that action; a tap or corresponding swipe or VoiceOver action adds and authorizes contributions in one step, without another sheet. Earlier preference-aware builds require confirmation in a separate disclosure sheet. Disabling sharing makes private adding the main action and removes verification. Right swipe and VoiceOver follow the same choice. Private additions are not enrolled when sharing is re-enabled. Earlier builds keep private adding as the main action and verification in More. See the Privacy Policy for data handling, withdrawal and retention.

You may use Letterfy for lawful, personal access to content and email accounts you are authorized to use. You are responsible for securing your device, accounts and access to the app, and for obtaining any permissions necessary to connect an account or access a newsletter.

You must not misuse the service, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access, bypass access controls, or use it to infringe another person’s rights. Access to a newsletter through your mailbox does not give you permission to republish it or share material outside the publisher’s permitted terms.

Keep your device’s operating system and the app up to date. Modifying or bypassing your device’s security protections, including jailbreaking, can compromise your information or prevent Letterfy from working correctly.

Public blogs

Compatible builds let you follow public blogs in Letterfy without signing up for their email newsletters or connecting a mailbox. Subscribe follows the identified blog on this device; it does not purchase publisher access, create an account at the publisher or enroll you in other publications by the same writer. Finding a website or previewing posts does not subscribe you. Unfollow stops future local delivery and removes the blog’s posts from Read and Library; Saved posts remain in Saved. It does not cancel an email subscription or paid publisher billing.

We use public feeds and supported public pages to build the writer and post directory. Feed discovery, publication dates, extraction and archive coverage can be incomplete or inaccurate. Public listings do not imply endorsement, verified authorship of every post or permission to redistribute content. Articles and artwork remain their owners’ property. Respect publisher terms and applicable rights when reading, saving, quoting or sharing. Contact support@letterfy.com to request correction or removal of a public source.

Reading mode and offline access depend on available content and successful downloads. Some posts are excerpts, require sign-in or payment, change after publication, or can only be opened on the original website. Letterfy does not bypass those controls or guarantee a complete permanent archive. Metadata may remain when full content is unavailable. Updated content does not by itself reset your read status.

Blog notifications are optional and separate from local email checking. When enabled and configured, Letterfy checks public sources and requests Apple push delivery for new posts. Historical imports and ordinary edits are not new-post alerts. Checks and push delivery are subject to source availability, service capacity, your settings, Apple and network conditions; no exact delivery time is promised. The Privacy Policy explains the installation token and selected-blog identifiers used for routing. Blog subscriptions and reading state do not currently synchronize across devices, and following a public blog grants no newsletter receipt or discussion permissions.

Reader counts and weekly ranking

Publication counts and weekly rankings summarize optional completion contributions from participating app installations over the past seven days. An installation counts once per publication. These figures exclude non-participants and are not publisher subscriber totals, a verified count of people, proof that an article was fully read, or a measure of editorial quality. Counts can change as contributions expire, are withdrawn or become ineligible. Up to three qualifying publications are shown; an empty ranking does not mean nobody reads those publications. Starting with build 57, fresh onboarding initially selects reader-count sharing; you can turn it off before saving and continuing, or later in Privacy & data. Earlier builds start with sharing off, and existing saved choices are preserved. See the Privacy Policy for the information sent, retention and withdrawal behavior.

Ownership & content

The Letterfy app, website, branding, trademarks and original materials belong to Letterfy Inc. or its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service in accordance with these terms and any applicable app-store license.

You may not copy, modify, distribute or create derivative versions of Letterfy, or attempt to extract its source code, except to the extent permitted by applicable law or a separate applicable license. These terms do not override rights granted by licenses for open-source components. App Store downloads are also governed by Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement unless a separate custom license is identified for the app. These website and service terms do not replace that app license.

Newsletters, articles and publisher artwork belong to their respective owners. We do not take ownership of your emails or subscriptions. You are responsible for respecting publisher terms, copyright and other rights when using content.

Visual sharing

You can choose to export visual cards with selected newsletter or blog passages, newsletter or blog post titles, public discussion excerpts or publication information to another app. Title cards do not automatically export the full email or article. Review the preview and any caption before sharing. Sharing newsletter or blog content requires the rights or permission applicable to that content; receiving an email, following a blog or finding a public page does not grant republication rights. Do not share confidential or personal information without authorization. Cards may use shortened excerpts and are not a substitute for the original source. The destination app controls posting, presentation and retention. Letterfy cannot remove independent copies held by recipients or other services.

Public discussions

Public discussion features are optional and require a compatible app build and a supported AT Protocol account. Your provider’s terms also apply. Connecting makes your existing public name, handle, biography and profile photo available to other Letterfy readers, subject to moderation. It does not create posts or change your provider’s records. Public profile details are chosen by the account holder and do not establish a verified legal identity. When you choose to publish, you instruct Letterfy to transmit your chosen record to your personal data server and to index and display it as part of the discussion service. Public records can be copied and displayed by other services.

You retain any rights you hold in your contributions. Publish only content you are entitled to share, including any newsletter passage you choose to quote. Mailbox access or Letterfy’s reader check does not grant permission to republish someone else’s work and does not certify a paid subscription. Do not post unlawful content, hateful or discriminatory abuse, harassment, threats, encouragement of violence or self-harm, profanity, spam, or another person’s confidential information. These rules also apply to selected newsletter quotes and public profile text. Letterfy uses deterministic language checks before publication and indexing, and the team reviews community reports. Automated checks can miss prohibited content or reject legitimate discussion; you can edit the wording, report a concern, or contact support about a decision.

You can report a public post or block a participant through the post menu. Letterfy may remove content from its index or restrict participation to address misuse or protect users, subject to applicable law. Contact support@letterfy.com with a concern about a moderation decision. A block or removal within Letterfy does not erase records held by independent services.

Deleting your own post requests deletion from your personal data server and reconciliation of Letterfy’s index; it cannot guarantee removal of copies others have made. Disconnecting a community account clears local access but does not delete its public records or revoke the provider’s authorization grant. Use the provider’s account controls to revoke that grant.

Connected & third-party services

Starting with build 44, publication matching is initially on during onboarding; you can turn it off before continuing or later in Privacy & data. Existing choices are preserved. While enabled, Letterfy uses batched source identifiers and hashes of issue titles to find existing catalog records, including for newsletters added privately. Discover, issue browsing and publication or publisher artwork load in bounded requests. Publisher logos and creator profile images are reviewed separately from newsletter artwork. Matching may be unavailable offline, and cached IDs can change after catalog corrections. These lookups are separate from optional catalog contributions; see the Privacy Policy for processing details.

Compatible builds support direct IMAP connections to a selected mailbox, including a Yahoo Mail preset. These connections require a provider that accepts password or app-password authentication over implicit TLS with a valid server certificate. Use an app password when your provider supports one; Yahoo requires a generated app password for this connection. App-password availability and revocation are controlled by the provider. Verify the server settings before entering credentials. These builds do not support every mail server, provider authentication method or folder arrangement. IMAP reading does not send mail, change provider read flags or delete provider messages; read and finished choices remain in Letterfy. Removing the connection erases its local credentials and mailbox data, but does not revoke a provider-side app password or delete provider messages. Gmail remains available through its separate Google authorization flow.

Some features depend on your email provider, internet connection, device, app store or other third-party services. You must also comply with the terms that apply to those services. We do not control their availability, content or policies.

Relevant terms and policies include Google’s Terms of Service, the Google API Services User Data Policy, and Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Newsletter web links open in Letterfy by default. In builds with unified reading, blog article links and Open original use the same browser and Reading options → Open links preference; you can choose your default browser instead. These builds retain cookies, website sign-ins and other website storage in a separate device-local Letterfy browser profile, shared across newsletters, blogs and connected mailboxes, until cleared, expired by the website or removed by system storage management. In builds with centralized storage, Profile → Storage contains Clear website data; Manage storage in Reading options or Browser options opens the same controls. Earlier builds offer Clear website data directly in those menus. This resets the website profile; unfollowing a blog or removing a mailbox does not clear it. Earlier newsletter in-app-browser builds use temporary storage; earlier blog builds use a system browser view instead of Letterfy’s shared browser. Some passkeys and single sign-on providers require your default browser, and website login availability is controlled by those services. Updated builds first show a brief third-party privacy notice with Open and Cancel choices; earlier in-app-browser builds open newsletter web links directly. Website scripts, cookies, content and services remain subject to the destination’s own terms and privacy policy. You can return to the newsletter or blog post, or open the page in your default browser. A link does not imply that those providers endorse Letterfy.

You are responsible for internet, mobile data and roaming charges incurred while using the service. If someone else pays for your device or connection, obtain their permission where needed. Offline access is limited to content successfully downloaded and still stored on your device.

Changes, availability & charges

We may update, add, change or discontinue features or services. Device and operating-system requirements may change. We cannot promise that every version will remain compatible with your device or that the service will always be available without interruption.

If we introduce a paid feature or subscription, we will clearly explain the price and applicable purchase terms before you agree to pay. These terms do not by themselves authorize a charge.

We may suspend or end access when reasonably necessary to protect the service, address misuse, comply with law, or discontinue the service. We will provide notice where required by law. You may stop using Letterfy at any time. Disconnecting an account or deleting the app does not cancel a newsletter subscription with its publisher.

Service limits & responsibility

Discover may include publications and issues checked automatically against public publisher websites and feeds, as well as entries reviewed by an administrator. Community verification can also use matching content fingerprints from multiple verified app installations after readers choose Add & verify to identify likely newsletter sources. This is a probabilistic signal, not proof of distinct recipients or cryptographically authenticated delivery. Fingerprints may fail to match personalized copies or match misleading content. They do not transmit email bodies. Publication details and public issue links still require validation. Catalog checks can be incomplete or mistaken. Inclusion does not certify sender authenticity, a paid subscription, publisher endorsement or permission to reuse content or artwork. Contact us to request correction of a catalog entry. Your personal newsletter choices and subscriptions remain separate.

Read-only Gmail builds keep Finish, Mark as read or unread, and Undo choices in Letterfy without changing Gmail. Earlier builds synchronize these choices using their existing permission. Compatible builds may offer optional read-status sync for each account; enabling it requires an explanation and additional Google consent. Once enabled, current local choices, including earlier changes, and future reading actions can update Gmail. You can turn sync off in the account’s options. This stops future writes but does not reverse changes already sent or revoke Google’s grant; access can be revoked in your Google Account. Reconnecting returns that account to read-only mode. Declining the optional permission preserves the existing connection and local reading features.

Letterfy helps you find and read newsletters, but detection, synchronization, search and third-party content may be incomplete or inaccurate. Do not rely on Letterfy as the only copy of important messages. Your email provider remains the source for your mailbox. Possible newsletters offers uncertain emails for your review and may include messages that are not newsletters. You can search for and explicitly add missed emails. Adding them approves their senders locally and preserves their read status; it does not establish sender authenticity or change your subscriptions.

In compatible builds, Remove from Letterfy hides newsletter senders from your reading library without changing your email subscriptions or deleting email at your provider. Saved issues stay available. You can restore a sender through Your newsletters → Hidden senders. This local choice does not cancel paid billing.

Choosing Unsubscribe authorizes Letterfy to send the publisher’s supported unsubscribe request. A successful response indicates that the endpoint accepted the request; it does not prove that delivery has stopped. Publishers may take time to apply requests. Some messages require completing the process on the publisher’s page, and unsupported or expired actions may need to be handled in your original mailbox. Letterfy does not automatically retry uncertain requests. Unsubscribing from email delivery does not cancel paid billing, delete an account or remove downloaded issues.

Subscription confirmation review uses local rules and, in compatible builds, an on-device intent model to surface recent newsletter signup links. It can miss or misidentify requests and does not authenticate senders or certify destination safety. Only open requests you expected. Choosing to open a confirmation link contacts the publisher’s site and may activate a subscription under that publisher’s terms. Dismissing a request does not cancel a subscription. Expired links may require a new request from the publisher.

In builds with assisted subscriptions, choosing Subscribe with a selected connected email address authorizes Letterfy to fill that address in a supported email-only newsletter signup form on the publisher’s website and open a new matching confirmation while the subscription sheet is active. You submit the publisher’s form yourself. The selected address is disclosed to that website and its services; review the destination and its terms before continuing. Automatic confirmation is limited to locally matched requests with the same account, exact publication identity, fresh timing and a supported HTTPS destination. Unmatched or ambiguous requests require your explicit review. Letterfy does not automatically submit signup forms, open confirmation links in the background, select additional consent boxes, enter account passwords, complete CAPTCHAs or purchase paid subscriptions. Some publishers require you to finish their form or confirmation manually. Closing the sheet stops foreground assistance; it does not cancel a signup already sent to a publisher.

Clear publisher success text can add a matched newsletter to Letterfy automatically in assisted-subscription builds. A successful page load alone does not establish a subscription, and publisher wording can be unsupported or inaccurate. Choosing “I’ve confirmed” reports that the publisher confirmed success; Letterfy does not independently verify that report. Earlier builds require this report for every local completion. Direct signup without a confirmation adds a local reading source only when one safe known sender is available; otherwise you need to add the first edition when it arrives. Adding a newsletter does not guarantee future delivery or unlock paid content. Publication metadata may be submitted under your catalog-sharing setting for separate review; local subscription confirmation does not approve a public catalog listing. Publisher availability, delivery delays, anti-bot checks and signup changes mean a fixed number of taps or successful automation cannot be guaranteed.

In builds with notification content controls, local alerts include subjects and available snippets by default, including after upgrading from a count-only build. You can choose subjects only or counts only in Notifications, and use iOS Show Previews to control when previews are visible, including on the Lock Screen. Earlier builds show counts only. Optional automatic mail checks use your chosen interval as a target. Background checks and notification delivery depend on iOS, device conditions, network access and your settings; they are not guaranteed to occur at an exact time. Swiping Letterfy away in the app switcher prevents background checks until you reopen it. Local mail notifications depend on mail processing on your device; the app does not keep mailbox credentials on Letterfy’s servers to check mail while it cannot run. You can disable automatic checking or change its frequency in the app.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. We are not responsible for failures caused by unavailable third-party services, an incompatible or unsecured device, a lost internet connection or events outside our reasonable control.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Letterfy Inc. is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, warranties, remedies or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable consumer rights.

Updates to these terms

We may revise these terms as Letterfy develops. The current version will be posted here with an updated effective date. We will provide additional notice where required for material changes. Your continued use after revised terms take effect is subject to those terms, to the extent permitted by law.
